Society Celebrates a Successful AGM

The Chairman, David Hewitt and the Treasurer Mark Pearson, were delighted to report on a successful show for 2013. Helped by a lovely sunny day, the local area had seen a fantastic display of the local agricultural and horticultural exhibits with entries up on previous years. More family entertainments had been introduced for the main ring and surrounding area and the positive results have ensured even more entertainments for 2014.

The former President Mrs Jean Fowler gave her report on the show and expressed how it had been such an honour to take over from her late husband Mr William Fowler. Both William, Jean, their two sons Daniel and Simon, as well as the grandchildren have been involved in the show for a number of years. Mrs Fowler thanked the members for asking her to become President and later in the meeting nominated and voted in with the rest of the members, a new President - Mr Francis Fitzherbert-Brockholes.

Mr Fitzherbert-Brockholes will hold the post of President of the Society for two years. This is particularly fitting as he will be President in 2015 – when the show will celebrate its bi-centenary. The Fitzherbert-Brockholes family can be traced back to the very first show. William Fitzherbert-Brockholes was the first President of Garstang and District Agricultural & Horticultural Society and was Francis’s great grandfather’s great uncle. His great grandfather was President in the 1890’s and his Francis’s father was President in the 1990’s. So, the family has been involved for generations. Francis was very happy to become part of this tradition and is honoured to be President for the bi-centenary show.

The Chairman thanked the members for coming to the meeting and voting in the board for the 2014 show. All members of Garstang Show are there to support the traditions of agriculture and horticulture in your local area. The Society would like to express their thanks to all members – without them the show wouldn’t happen. If you would like to support the show, you can become a member of the Society. For a small fee of £15 as well as having a vote at the next AGM and a ticket to the show you would also be entitled to use the exclusive members area on show day with a complimentary cream tea in the afternoon – further details can be found at

Planning is already well underway for the 2014 show. As well as all the usual exhibits, headlining our family entertainments will be the 3Sixty mountain bike display team. We’ll also be announcing other acts on facebook and twitter throughout the year.
