New President for 2016

Following the Garstang Show's Annual General Meeting, we welcome Rosalind Hargreaves as our New President for 2016 and 2017.

Following two years of service, the committee would like to thank Mr Francis Fitzherbert-Brockholes for the honour of serving the show over these special years. Mr Fitzherbert-Brockholes’ family has been involved with Garstang and District Agricultural and Horticultural society since its inception.  He now hands over the baton, to our Light Horse Chairman, Rosalind Hargreaves who becomes President of the Society for 2016 and 2017.
Rosalind Hargreaves is a well-known and very well-respected judge of horses and ponies at all levels. Having started out working in the world of show-jumping, she moved across to showing with great success, having qualified and competed various horses at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show, originally at Wembley, but now held at the NEC in Birmingham.
In recent years, she has judged the Horse of the Year Show three times for coloured horses and ponies, Cobs, Hacks and British Miniature Horses. She’s also judged Cobs at Royal Windsor, and is, this year, judging at the Royal Three Counties Show and officiating in the Hunter ring at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead amongst others.  Ros has also judged internationally at the Horse of the Year show in New Zealand as well as other major shows in Ireland and the Isle of Man.
Ros is often asked her opinion on showing for magazines such as Horse and Hound and is on the Judges’ Selection Panel for the British Show Horse Association, the society of which she was recently President for three years.
Ms Hargreaves competed regularly at Garstang Show and has been involved in the organisation of the show for a number of years. Ros helped Mark Flatman to run the Light Horse section and in 1998 she took over the leadership from Mark Flatman after his passing.
Ms Hargreaves comments, “I am honoured to be elected as President by the board of directors. I competed at Garstang show, winning many championships with my horses in the 1980's, and 1990's. I began my association with the show by helping Mark Flatman to run the Light Horse section, taking over from him in 1998, when I was first elected to the board of directors.”
Since then Ros has continued to raise the profile of the section by adding new classes and procuring prestigious qualifiers. Although she no longer competes at Garstang Show, she still has a horse at home to “play” with and a small rescue pony for her grandchildren who are already, quite literally, taking up the reins!
Ros comments, “I look forward to my two years in office, and hope to meet all exhibitors and people who have contributed to the continued success of the show.”
The committee would like to wish Miss Hargreaves a very enjoyable and successful time as President.

The show will be held on the 6th August 2016. Planning has already begun and following the success of the last show, promises to be a day packed full of family entertainment. The Adrenaline Tour are booked for the main ring act – a spectacular quad bike stunt show. Children’s entertainment will include some famous TV presenters, soon to be announced!
