Chairman's Update

The 2012 show is fast approaching, and although this year has been very trying weather-wise and we have had a tremendous amount of rain the showfield has stood up to this incredibly well. It’s very sad that many shows have had to cancel in these extreme conditions, but with the current condition of the showfield Garstang Show will be running as usual and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Although agriculture is the backbone of our show, we pride ourselves on the strength and quality of all our sections including, horticulture, dogs, poultry and pigeons, budgerigars, rabbits etc. Of course not forgetting the equine section which has gone from strength to strength over recent years boasting many Horse of the Year Show Qualifiers and British Showjumping
As always we are expecting a good turnout in the dairy section as well as many other regular beef classes including the longhorns. Also for the first time in many years we have classes of highland cattle at Garstang Show.

Our committee are confident that the diverse entertainment and goods on display will provide something for all the family. We have a variety of live entertainment throughout the afternoon including dancing, singing, performing arts and a Ceilidh band. The live entertainment will be continuing until early evening to accompany our hog roast/barbecue which will be served from 5.30 onwards. BMA Music and Performing Arts of Broughton are providing much of the entertainment, you can find out more about what they do at their stand on the show.

I am always struck by the social atmosphere there is at the show. It really is a superb time to catch up with old friends, perhaps who you haven’t seen since last year’s show.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our exhibitors as without them the show would not be what it is and a huge debt of gratitude is also owed to our generous sponsors who continue to support us, as well as all the hard-working members of the committee.

And finally thanks to all those of you who come to Garstang Show – you may be making your annual visit or it may be your first, but you all contribute to the special atmosphere which makes our show so special.

See you on the showfield.
